The elegant and committed handkerchief (aka hanky, kerchief, or even snot rag*).
A small, often square piece of material that is used for personal hygiene purposes.
Blowing your nose, wiping the sweat off your brow, scrubbing your kid’s face after a way too enthusiastic meal, drying your tears, cleaning your electronic devices’ screen, saving the day while everyone is running for napkins to wipe off the glass of water spilled on the meeting table, flagging a taxi, asking for truce, drying your hands without paper towels or energy hungry blow dryers, or even for chivalric gallantry.

Caring for your hanky is very simple. Simply toss it in the washing machine in cold to warm water (over 30 degrees is best, we tell you why right here!) with the rest of your laundry. Avoid the dryer– simply hang to dry or dry flat. Laying your handkerchief out in the sun is great – and the sun has impressive stain removing / antibacterial properties. On the downside, the colour may fade a little under the rays. Don’t use bleach or whitening agents. Should you wish to iron your handkerchief, don’t hold back! Simply avoid ironing directly on prints. You can use a piece of fabric to protect the patterns or iron on the other face of your handkerchief.
